Rehabilitation Therapy

Our goal is to make each patient's healing journey a positive and rewarding one. Our individualized therapy programs ensure every patient need is addressed and measurable progress is made every day. Our patients benefit from a full range of aggressive therapies that work synergistically to restore patients’ pre-surgery or pre-illness level of function - or higher.

Orthopedic Therapy

Following an injury or orthopedic surgery, patients want to get home and back to their daily routines as quickly as possible. Our comprehensive orthopedic program includes strengthening programs, balance assessments, and practical, hands-on training relating to safe transfer and other post-acute care skills.

Our full-time team of experienced physical and occupational therapists is focused on helping each patient achieve results as quickly as possible—without risking further injury or setbacks.

We are specially trained in knee, shoulder and hip replacement precautions and protocols; foot evaluation and orthotic fabrication; comprehensive back care and amputee rehabilitation. Further, staff members are well-schooled in pain management, including electrical stimulation and ultrasound, as well as holistic care, such as heat treatments and massotherapy.

Stroke Therapy

Focused on meeting each patient’s cognitive, communication and physical rehabilitation goals, our National Institute of Health stroke-certified therapy team provides one-on-one care to patients recovering from a brain injury or illness.

Our speech therapy program includes language therapy, voice improvement, cognitive treatment, speech intelligibility and swallowing therapy. Patients suffering from dysphagia, a common condition among stroke and brain injury survivors, can take advantage of our VitalStim® therapy. VitalStim® is an extremely effective technology proven to dramatically improve swallowing ability through electrical stimulation. Repeated therapy helps to gradually retrain the muscle groups to make swallowing easier and eventually effortless.

We know the recovery process after a neurological event is demanding—on families as well as patients.

At Altercare, we educate patients and families to ensure their progress continues long after the patient leaves our location.

Physical Therapy

The goal of our physical therapy is to promote the patient’s ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

We’re proud to offer the full spectrum of physical therapy, from conditioning and strengthening, balance retraining, gait analysis and transfer training, to neuromuscular retraining, fine motor skill therapy, and orthotics consulting.

With physical therapy, we feel it’s important to offer lots of options and variety.

We recognize patients’ needs and preferences are different, and that they change from day to day. Our patients tell us that our attractive surroundings, state of the art equipment and myriad of choices are important motivators and key to their success.

Occupational Therapy

Getting back to business—whether work, hobbies, family and home management, or just some plain old fun with friends—is the aim of occupational therapy.

Our OT team works closely with patients so they can resume all their living activities safely and with ease.

Even routine tasks like eating, bathing, dressing, and operating a computer or appliance can be challenging at first. But there are many ways our trained staff can help.

We specialize in adaptive equipment assessment and instruction; cognitive retraining, neuromuscular retraining, including joint range, strengthening and endurance; splinting; visual-perceptual skill development; and wheelchair and seating evaluation. Constant patient assessments and copious recordkeeping ensures the best possible outcomes.

Cardiovascular Therapy

Returning the patient to an active lifestyle is the focus of our cardiovascular rehabilitation program.

Like all of our therapies, our cardiovascular program is a combination of exercise and education, custom designed to the specific needs of a patient.

Our patients have access to personalized instruction in exercise, nutrition, stress reduction, smoking cessation and general education on how the heart works. This builds confidence in the patient to make changes to improve and maintain their health.

Following the patient's acute care rehabilitation regimen, our therapists create an individualized program directed by a physician to continue the patient's cardiovascular rehabilitation at home, dramatically reducing the risk of future cardiovascular illness.
